Wildcats start season strong in Las VegasPublished by
Las Vegas, Nev. The Weber State men's and women's track and field program had a successful first meet this past weekend. The team picked up four victories at the UNLV Spring Classic.
lt;br />Hailey Whetten ran away from the field in the 5,000 meters to win in a time of 17:35.71. Amanda Ward was fourth in 17:49.80. Ellie Child was dominant in the 3,000 meter steeplechase winning in a time of 10:46.23. Alice Keller and Paige Dilmore finished second and third in the same event.
lt;br />Kiersten Watkins finished second in the 400-meter hurdles in a time of 1:03.63. Jamie Stokes ran a personal-best time of 2:10.94 in the 800-meters to place second.
lt;br />Emily Morgan took third in the 100-meters with a time of 12.24.
lt;br />Natasha Powell finished third and fourth in the weight throw and shot put.
lt;br />On the men's side, Preston Johnson picked up the first victory of the weekend in the 10,000 meters on Friday morning in a time of 30:45.53. Tip Worob and Mike Hardy finished second and third in the same race.
lt;br />Trevor Ricks picked up another victory in the 1,500 meters just edging Trac Norris of Utah Valley University in a time of 3:52.50. He also came back and placed third in the 800-meters in 1:52.97.
lt;br />Tony Osheku Jr. tied a personal-best in the 200-meters as he placed third in a time of 21.68. He also finished third in the 100-meters with a time of 10.87. Isaac Akers took second in the 400-meter hurdles with Dustin Durfee finishing sixth.
lt;br />The men's 4x400 relay team ran nearly two seconds faster then the next fastest team in 3:16.41.
lt;br />Nathan Dunivan took second in the discus with a mark of 146-04.00 with Justin Herbert placing sixth. Anthony Gregory cleared 6-08.75 in the high jump.
