Wildcats head to Las Vegas for first outdoor meet

OGDEN, Utah The Weber State men's and women's track and field program will open up its outdoor campaign this weekend at the UNLV Spring Invitational. lt;br /> lt;br />WOMEN'S PREVIEW lt;br />The women's team will return two athletes that participated at the NCAA West Regionals last spring. Jamie Stokes, fresh off her first individual Big Sky championship, will look to cement her name with some of the greats. She enters the season with a personal-best of 4:24.93 in the 1,500 meters. That is the seventh-fastest time in school history. lt;br />Jazmin Porter, who earned All-Conference honors in the shot put, will enter the outdoor season looking to mover her name up the school records. She is the current school record holder in the discus with a mark of 167-02.25. She also has the eighth best mark in the shot put and second in the hammer throw. lt;br />Ellie Child has flourished in her sophomore year and will look for that to continue. Child took second in the 3,000 meters at the indoor meet and ran a leg on the distance medley relay team that took first. lt;br />Other athletes to watch are going to be Tawnie Moore, Ashley Kealamakia and Katherine Wishmeyer. Moore currently ranks eighth in the 100-meter hurdles and holds the school record in 60-meter hurdles. Kealamakia has been a solid mid-distance runner since her freshmen year. Wishmeyer is the sixth-fastest 400-meter runner in school history. lt;br /> lt;br />MEN'S PREVIEW lt;br />Tony Osheku Jr. made a name for himself during the indoor season after earning All-Conference honors in the 200-meters. He looks to anchor the sprints who will be without their top runner from a year ago, Seth Fortin. lt;br />The duo of Isaac Akers and Dustin Durfee will be two of the best in the conference in the 400-meter hurdles. While Joey Czellecz and Ryan Carlson will continue to push another in the 110-meter hurdles. lt;br />Mike Hardy and Trevor Ricks will return for their senior year and will add depth to the dis
