Men sixth, women eighth after day one

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. The Weber State men's and women's track and field teams had a good showing on the first day of the Big Sky Indoor Track and Field Championships. Both of the team's sit in eighth place as the men have 17 points and the women have 11. lt;br />On the women's side, the women's distance relay of Ellie Child, Kiersten Watkins, Paige Dilmore and Jamie Stokes picked up the first victory of the weekend. Their time of 12:02.12 was more than four seconds then the second-place Lumberjacks of Northern Arizona. It is the second straight year that the Wildcats were victorious in that event. The other scorer for the Wildcats were Jazmin Porter who took eighth in the weight throw and lt;br />In the preliminary round of the 60-meter hurdles, Tawnie Moore broke the school record with her time of 8.66. She breaks Colby Foxley's record of 8.69 that was set back in 2003. Moore will race tomorrow in the finals. Ashley Kealamakia advanced to the finals in the 800-meters after running 2:15.02 in her preliminary heat. lt;br />Other performances that didn't result in qualification to the finals came from Emily Morgan and Alex Van Halder in the 60-meters. Morgan's time of 7.64 is the fifth-fastest in school history while Van Halder's 7.71 is the sixth-fastest. Hailey Stevens 3223 points in the pentathlon are the tenth most in the school history. lt;br /> lt;br />On the men's side, Anthony Gregory earned All-Conference honors for the second straight year in the high jump with his second place finish. His mark of 6-11.50 is a seasonal-best as Deante Kemper of NAU won the event. The men's distance relay team took second in a time of 10:14.20 just six seconds behind Montana State. The other scorer came from Jason Kearns in the 5,000 meters as the took eighth in 15:39.22 just edging Alejandro Montano of NAU. lt;br />Tony Osheku Jr. advanced to the finals in both the 60-and-200-meters. His time of 6.87 in the 60-meters and 21.6
