Taylor Ward qualifies for the Olympic Trials

OGDEN, Utah Former Weber State track standout Taylor Ward took to the streets of Houston, Texas on Sunday morning chasing a dream. Ward made her marathon debut at the Chevron Houston Marathon hoping to run fast enough to qualify for the Olympic Trials next year. lt;br />Ward's time of 2:38:30 was almost five minutes faster than the ‘B' standard which earned her a chance to race for a spot in the 2016 Olympics. The trails will be held in Los Angeles, Cali., on February 13, 2016, where the top three earn a chance to represent the United States. lt;br />Ward graduated from Weber State in 2014 with a degree in Nursing. She was a four-year letterwinner with the Wildcat women's track and field and cross country teams. As a senior in 2014, she captured the Big Sky Outdoor title in the 10,000 meters and qualified for the NCAA West Preliminary Round where she finished 20th overall. lt;br /> lt;br />During her career with the Wildcats she earned All-Conference honors six times and earned mulitple Academic All-Conference honors. She twice competed with the Wildcats at the NCAA Cross Country Championships. She currently has four times on the Weber State career top 10 list. She has the third fastest time in WSU history in the indoor 5,000 meters and is ninth in the indoor 3,000 meters. She also has the fourth fastet time in the outdoor 10,000 meters and the seventh best in the outdoor 5,000 meters. lt;br /> lt;br />Ward currently lives in Birmingham, Ala., with her husband Kurt, a former Wildcat track athlete. She is purusing a master's degree at Weber State.
