Wildcats have solid showing at Winter Open

OGDEN The Wildcats officially kicked off the indoor track and field season in the comfort of their own home. lt;br />Beginning on Friday at the Weber County Fairgrounds and ending Saturday at Stromberg Arena, the Weber State University men's and women's indoor teams snagged a handful of event wins and established a solid starting point for the remainder of the 2015-16 season. lt;br />Freshman Aaliyah Crawford won the 200 meters with a time of 25.25, while teammates Alexandria Van Halder and Tawnie Moore finished second and third, respectively. lt;br />Moore also had a strong finish in the 55-meter hurdles at 8.06, finishing second to Nevada's Mofiyinfoluwa Olusola by just .02. lt;br />Sophomore Michaella Hillstrom won the 800 meters with a time of 2:16.85. Hillstrom, Crawford, Van Halder, also teamed up with Freshman Ashlynn Allred to win the 4x400 relay. Allred finished second in the long jump at 17 feet, 8 3/4 inches. lt;br />Senior Natasha Powell clobbered the field in the weight throw, with a throw of 61 feet, 4 3/4 inches, nearly 10 feet further than her closest competitor. lt;br />On the men's side of the meet, senior Tony Osheku Jr. won the 400 meters by 1/100th of a second, while finishing with a time of 50.37, while also placing second in the 55 meters, crossing the finish line at 6.46. lt;br />Sophomore Josh Hartford finish second in the 800 meters with a time of 1:544.88, just 1/100th of a second behind Utah Valley's Blake Adams. lt;br />Junior Joe Maloney captured the mile run by over 10 seconds, finishing with a time of 4:21.27, while senior Jason Kearns won the 5,000 meters with a time of 15:11.66. lt;br />In the men's field events, freshman Logan Leavitt won the long jump with a 22-feet, 2 1/4 inch jump, while finishing second in the triple jump. lt;br />Junior Justin Herbert won the weight throw, with a throw of 60-feet, 4 1/2 inches. lt;br />The meet was the first of five indoor meets before the Big Sky Conference championships (Feb.
