Powell breaks record at Big Sky Championships

CHENEY, Wash. The second day of the Big Sky Outdoor track and field championships were highlighted with school records and All-Conference honors. The men's team finished fourth with 77 points while the women's team finished eighth with 41 points. Northern Arizona and Sacramento State shared the men's title with the Hornets also winning the women's title. lt;br />"I thought the best case scenario for the men's team would be third by scoring around 80 points." Director of Track and Field Dan Walker said. "But I am pleased with how they performed especially in the 400-meter hurdles and 4x400 team. Mike (Hardy) and Stetson (Smith) both ran great races and got us valuable points. I was pleased with Tasha (Powell) breaking the school record with nearly a five-foot improvement. I was happy with how the men performed and we need to get a few more athletes that can score on the women's side." lt;br />On the women's side, Natasha Powell broke the school record in the hammer with a mark of 184-02.00. She placed sixth in that event. lt;br />Jamie Stokes took fourth place in both the 1,500 and 800 meters finals as she ran 4:25.59 and 2:11.82respectively. Ellie Child took fifth in the 5,000 meters running 17:29.86. A day removed from breaking the school record, Emily Morgan placed fourth in the 100-meters running 12.01. lt;br />Tawnie Moore took eighth in the 100-meter hurdles running 14.80. lt;br />The 4x100 relay took sixth in a seasonal-best time of 46.65 while the 4x400 relay also took sixth running 3:47.86. lt;br />On the men's side, Mike Hardy, Dustin Durfee and Stetson Smith all earned All-Conference honors. Hardy took third in the 5,000 meters running a seasonal-best time of 14:21.98.Durfee took third in the 400-meter hurdles in a seasonal-best time of 52.28. While Isaac Akers took fourth in 52.61 while Joey Czellecz took seventh in 54.46 in the same race. Smith took third in the 800-meters running a personal-best
