Wildcat women second, men third in BSC XC pollPublished by
OGDEN The Big Sky Conference released the preseason coaches' straw poll on Tuesday, and the Wildcats look to be right in the thick of things.
lt;br />The Weber State University women's team was picked second, pulling in two first place votes and 119 total points, while the Wildcat men's team was picked third with 112 points.
lt;br />The Northern Arizona women and men were selected as the favorites, with the women's team receiving 139 points and eight first-place votes. The men's team was a narrow favorite, finishing with 138 points to Southern Utah's 137, with both teams receiving six first-place votes.
lt;br />The Wildcat women are seeking to return to the top of the Big Sky after having their three-year run of titles (2011-2013) snapped last season. Weber State's key returners include Jamie Stokes and Ellie Child, both all-conference performers at last year's meet. Stokes won the mile in indoor track, Child was second in the 3,000 meters and both ran legs on WSU's first-place DMR team in 2015. Weber State is ranked eighth in the Mountain Region.
lt;br />The WSU men aim to bounce back from losing their top-three finishers from last season, and enter the year ranked eighth in the USTFCCCA Mountain Region.
lt;br />Weber State begins its 2015 season this Saturday at the BYU Invitational in Provo.
lt;br />The 2015 Big Sky Cross Country Championships will be hosted by Southern Utah in Cedar City, Utah, on October 31st. NCAA Regional meets will be held on November 13th, with the NCAA Championships following eight days later on November 21st in Louisville, Ky.
